Week 34

TIP OF THE WEEK

Okay, I have a silly tip based on a personal story. I have been in this craft (filmmaking) for a LONG time. I have had my tripod for four years. I was working on a project and saw this thing that said “90º” on my tripod. My thought was like “no way - can my tripod really rotate 90º and do a top-down shot?” Sure enough, it can. Do you know how many weird positions I have rigged up to get a top-down shot with that tripod? So… it doesn’t matter how long you’re in a career, you can still totally miss some super obvious things. It is okay to make mistakes. It’s okay to be “experienced” and still feel like an “amateur” at times. It’s good to be humbled, haha.

JORDYN UPDATES

Hi! Man, it has been A WHILE. The quick summary: I was sick. I got hit really hard with a virus and I just needed the rest. But we’re back!

For those in America, I hope you had a wonderful Thanksgiving. And I hope everyone enjoys an incredible holiday season!

So, being sick for three weeks really put me behind on a lot of work. It was tempting to let the stress build of course, but I really fought that mindset because piling stress isn’t often all that helpful.

I have been running hard though ever since I started to feel a little better. My first project was a crazy one. I flew back to my hometown (Las Vegas, NV), landed at 10pm and started filming from 1am-12pm (yes, I pulled an all-nighter). I then filmed 4am-12pm the next day. It was a wild weekend of no sleep at the tail end of my sickness - but the project went well!

I then flew back to Oregon and started immediately working on a very special project to me. I got to work with Canon! Honestly, a dream. I’m so thankful for the opportunity. The video is now live and you can watch it below!

I’ll keep this newsletter short because I’m just super excited to share this video with you. I’ll get back to my regular helpful newsletter thoughts soon! Thanks for being here!

P.S. I have some Black Friday deals you may want to check out below. They’re all things I use in my business and genuinely recommend.

This week’s creative challenge:

Come up with an idea of something you can film with your family during the holidays. A project that would be enjoyable for you - not one that would take you away from being present with everyone you love. It’s so helpful to think about it ahead of time.

BLACK FRIDAY DEALS

AN EXTRA FOR THOSE WHO MAKE IT TO THE BOTTOM OF MY EMAILS :)

In the midst of a busy week - I ACTUALLY did the thing where I saw something beautiful and pulled off on the side of the road to capture it. You know that feeling when you’re like: “Dang, I wish I had my camera”? Well, this time my drone was in my car and I actually took the effort to stop. I’m so glad I did!

Keep in mind, the colors are way better not in “.gif” form. It was beautiful.

Have a great day!

Best, Jordyn
