Week 35
Hi! Welcome to those of you who are new here and haven’t received one of my newsletters before! 😊 If you’ve been around for a while, you know I title my emails by week - this really just refers to the total number of newsletters I’ve sent out. They’re not consecutive weeks anymore as I’ve taken a much needed break over the holidays, but I think it’s a fun way to track how long you’ve been part of the journey with me. Thanks for being here! Now, let’s hop in!
TIP OF THE WEEK
When you follow creators on the internet like me, you get to hear our opinions and advice on how to do things. That’s really great… BUT in case you need it, here’s permission to not listen. You seriously don’t have to do things the way other people do it. You don’t have to niche down. You don’t have to post on Instagram every day of the week. You can make the art you want. Sometimes, I think we just need to hear that. I LOVE trying to live in a black and white world but it’s just not. It’s so not black and white. Same goes for this career. There is no one correct way. So take what people say and implement it if it clicks for you. If it doesn’t, don’t force yourself into something that doesn’t feel right.
JORDYN UPDATES
Highs of the month: | Reality of the month: |
Okay, so many fun updates to share with you guys!
I created a free guide for advice on Solo Filmmaking: I’ve been running my freelance business and doing this whole video thing solo for a while now. If there’s anyone I can help, it’s the filmmaker who’s doing it on their own -because that’s me, I’ve been there, and I get it. So, I’ve started putting together resources to share what I’ve learned along the way, and I’m excited to pass it on to you. Feel free to check out the guide, and if you have any feedback or suggestions on how I can make it better, I’d love to hear it. My goal is to help you succeed!
I’ve updated my Yearly Finance Tracker: Okay, seriously—I’m so excited about this. I’ve put a lot of heart and effort into the Yearly Finance Tracker because, honestly, I built it for myself first. It’s not just some random spreadsheet - it’s something I actually use and rely on. I really believe it’s a solid tool that will help you get organized. I just met with my CPA, and he was able to figure out my taxes in no time, all thanks to how organized everything is. If you’re looking to get your finances in order this year, I highly recommend giving it a try. You can grab the base template to get started, but if you want it customized to fit your life and business, I can do that too. It’s such a relief to have a clear view of where my money is going each month, and I’m confident you’ll feel the same way. Check it out and feel free to reach out if you’ve got any questions. I’m always happy to help!
The More Than a Filmmaker Community: Honestly, this community has turned out to be more than I ever imagined. It’s been such a special, intimate space, and I’ve been hesitant to promote it too much because I didn’t want to disrupt the supportive, close-knit culture we’ve built over the past year. But now, I’m opening it back up through an application process, and I’m really excited about what’s to come! This is the perfect time to join, especially since we’re actively discussing what we want the community to look like this year. Your voice and input could help shape it into a place that feels like it’s made just for you—whether you're looking for advice, support, or a space to share your journey with like-minded creatives. One thing we’re especially great at is giving helpful feedback and holding each other accountable—we don’t just talk the talk, we push each other to keep growing, learning, and making progress. If you’re even a little bit interested, I’d love for you to be a part of this conversation and community. You can learn more and apply here. I can’t wait to see you inside!
You can get a mobile app for this newsletter! Scroll up and click that little “read online” button at the top right. You’ll have to login with the email you used to subscribe to this newsletter. It may then send you an email with a “Get Access” button. That should then automatically prompt you to download the app on your phone with instructions. If it doesn’t, click your little account icon at the top right of where you signed in and click “Add App to Home Screen”. If my instructions are absolutely terrible, click here and read the “subscriber instructions” for help.
Alright, that’s a lot of words so I’ll stop the updates there for now. Thanks for being a part of this journey with me. I’m excited to continue to learn how to serve you better every week. Have a wonderful day!
This week’s creative challenge:
Try creating some texture with light. Rig up a cardboard cutout to look like window light. Add something that shimmers in front of the light. Experiment and get creative with light in a new way this week. It could be fun!
WANT TO CHAT WITH ME ONE-ONE-ONE?
Do you have specific questions you want answered and don’t know who to ask? Are you in a creative rut and just need someone who understands to encourage you? It is my favorite thing to connect with you guys! No dumb questions here - just two creatives connecting and learning from one another. 60 Minute Video Call | $250 |
IN CASE YOU MISSED IT:
AN EXTRA FOR THOSE WHO MAKE IT TO THE BOTTOM OF MY EMAILS :)
There’s a special discount for HoneyBook for the month of January. If you’ve been eyeing a client manager software, I do really like this one. I’ve been using it for years. I literally, today, just sent info over to an inquiry in 5 seconds because of how easy it is to streamline your workflow. The only thing I don’t like is the price so 30% off is really nice. Feel free to take the deal if you’d like.
