Week 8
HI GUYS!
Changing the format up just a little for this week because I’m so excited to share that I completed that video I was talking about last week! Yay! I poured my heart into this one. I hope you enjoy!

TIP OF THE WEEK
Where is your mind at this week? What’s the overarching narrative that has been playing through your unconscious thoughts? Why do I ask? Because I think it is so important to stay in tune with what we are telling ourselves on a daily basis. To check in and see if we have more of a habit or disposition towards positive thoughts or negative thoughts.
I believe this is really important for creativity. Life in general too of course, but let’s focus on creativity for the moment.
Let’s say you’re about to start working on an idea you came up with.
If you were honest, what resonates more with your thought life?
OPTION 1 • “I don’t know if this idea is good.” | OPTION 2 • “I have lots of ideas. I’m sure there’s a handful of really great ones.” |
Or [insert better examples here]. You know the point I’m trying to make. When I say “unconscious thoughts” - I mean that these are things that can be playing in the back of your mind without you even realizing it. If you’re consistently approaching an idea and feeling discouraged at the gate - it might be a good sign to check in with your mind. What is your own mind saying to you every day? Do you constantly hear that “you’re not where you want to be yet - you struggle with executing ideas - you’re consistently wasting time”? Well, those thoughts are not going to be very good drivers to pursue creativity.
Imagine being an athlete and your coaches pep talk before the game was “alright team, I don’t know if you can do it, good luck.” Obviously, not very encouraging. A good coach will focus on the strengths of their players and encourage that in them.
Be a good coach to yourself today. Set yourself up for success as a creative by winning the battle of your mind first. Start shifting the narrative towards positive forward momentum.
This week’s creative challenge:
Experiment with slow shutter speed this week in both photo AND video. Yes, video too. It can create some really cool effects. I would recommend using a person for your subject. I’d love to see results if you want to send them over!

Here’s a story for the week.
This is a frame from the video I just put out. I was having a hard day. None of my friends were available for me to film a clip with “friends” - ironic, haha. Let me paint the picture for you. I just got done filming the scene of me in the middle of the road with my drone. As I landed my drone, I ended a phone call with a friend who said they weren’t available to meet up. That was the last friend I could think of asking. Right after I ended that call, this guy drives past me slowly and stares at me a little too long. My gut said I should get out of there. So I threw my gear into my car and drove to a different isolated dirt road. Like really isolated. I literally parked my car in the middle of the road because I doubted anyone would drive by. Sure enough, someone started coming down the road and I was like “shoot, I have to throw my stuff in the car and get out of the way”….but then I hear someone call me by name. It was a friend of mine from church. She just so happens to pick up milk from the only farmer who lives on that exact dirt road. The odds of that timing are slim to none. She doesn’t even live in my town. The photo above is the result of that interaction. That was a huge blessing in my day. After so much discouragement, I really felt so intimately loved by the Lord in that moment. My friend felt the same because of circumstances in her own life. Such a cool little moment.
