Week 18

TIP OF THE WEEK

Remind yourself that sometimes a moment is more important than a perfect image. If you find yourself frustrated that the lighting (especially in a situation that is out of your control) is really bad and you wish it could be different…take a step back and consider if the moment is more valuable than a perfect lighting setup. I’m reminded of photos from the 50s and old home videos that, in today’s world, would be considered “bad quality”. Yet, nobody views them that way. They view those photos/videos as a special moment in history. They create a sense of nostalgia. Remind yourself that one day you’ll probably look at your photos/videos with that same sentimental mindset. Of course, I love high quality images and seek to create them often. This tip of the week is written in an effort to free you up to enjoy a moment even if it isn’t turning out as good as you hoped for this time.

JORDYN UPDATES

Highs of the week:
• I’m just still so pumped that the Finance Tracker is available for you to use!
• A big high of my week is hidden in this week’s podcast episode. Go have a listen to find out ;). You can find the links below.
• I think it’s just so sweet when life starts to turn a corner. I started this newsletter really burnt out and in a tough season. Things are looking up and I do not take that for granted.

Reality of the week:
• With that being said, life still isn’t easy. There are still things that I’m definitely tempted to worry about. But honestly, I’ve been pretty good at just choosing peace. I know it will all be okay. I’m so thankful to live such a blessed life. I truly do realize how fortunate I really am.
“Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us in the heavenly realms with every spiritual blessing in Christ.” Ephesians 1:3

What if you thought about how your creativity could bless someone this week? I feel like most conversations we have nowadays are how we can use our creativity to earn money. That’s fine. That’s not bad. But just for this week, what if we changed our focus?

What if what we created had nothing to do with ourselves? The motivation isn’t to show off talent, hard work, or skill. The motivation isn’t to make money. The motivation isn’t for affirmation or praise. Rather, the motivation this week was simply about blessing the person on the receiving end. How would that change how you created this week?

I just wanted to throw that thought out there. I think that thought could be a really good and healthy thing to explore. It’s sometimes refreshing to re-consider why we do what we do. I find that every time I take a step back and think about my motivations, it helps remind me why I love this craft.

I actually think I’m going to keep this week’s newsletter short. I’d rather you spend the next 3 minutes dwelling on these questions than reading more of my words.

I hope you’re having a wonderful day! I so appreciate you being a part of this newsletter!

This week’s creative challenge:

Alright let’s get super specific: this week, make a 15 second commercial about a jar of jam. I’m not kidding. Go do it. Get the creative momentum moving. You could post this on social media, use it as a portfolio piece, or never show it to anybody. It does not matter. I guarantee you will learn something by just literally completing this challenge. You might have gotten complacent with these creative challenges. If you haven’t done a single one of them, I encourage you to do this one. Push yourself. You will be thankful you did.

MY TOP RECOMMENDATIONS

FOR THOSE WHO MAKE IT TO THE BOTTOM OF MY EMAILS :)

Hey, can I ask for feedback? I’m really curious to know what type of content you enjoy from me the most. My YouTube videos? My podcast? This Newsletter? I’d really love to get a gauge on what you have really enjoyed. As we’re talking about serving, I’d love to produce more of what the majority of my audience enjoys. I want to be putting my effort into the right places.

I wish I could put a poll into this newsletter but I can’t do it easily. It would mean the world to me if you could shoot me a quick reply to this email. I would appreciate it so much. Even if it’s a one-word response like “YouTube”. Thanks guys!!

Have a great day!

Best, Jordyn
