Week 4
TIP OF THE WEEK
If you’re stuck in any way, in any thing in life - try doing the exact opposite of what you have been doing. If you’re not working out, go work out. If you’re scrolling on social media too much, literally don’t look at it today. If you’re burning yourself out with work, take a full day of rest. If you’re being lazy, go accomplish a task. If you haven’t made that video, go make it. It may sound too simple. But I challenge you to try anyway. Or as my pre-school gym teacher said…there is no “try”, just “do”, haha.
JORDYN UPDATES
Highs of the week: Lows of the week: |
I wanted to just share a little realistic view of the whole Instagram thing. I had a reel get over 4 million views. I gained over 12,000 followers because of it. Was that a fun experience? For sure, of course it feels good to see your work get noticed. The very next day I posted some stories and a post and only 300 people saw my story and only 1,000 people saw my post (according to the analytics). I share this because I want to just bring light to reality of social media. It truly is just unfulfilling. I so want to encourage everyone to not put so much stake in how work performs on social platforms. For those of you who filled out my feedback form last week, I checked out your work and there are so many of you who are INCREDIBLY talented. Just because the Instagram (or any other platform’s) algorithm doesn’t give you the time of day, it doesn’t mean you don’t create great work. I loved the post I put out that got millions of views but I honestly think I was more proud of the post that only got 1,000. Anyway, I know we all know this…everyone has been talking about the challenges of social media for a while now, but I really just wanted to bring back an encouraging perspective. I know not everyone reading this may be trying to share their work publicly, but if you are, please don’t let the “numbers” of social media discourage you. I have no doubt you are a unique, creative, and valuable individual with so much to offer. I truly would not be on social media if I didn’t care about the people I could connect with. I’d leave the internet if I didn’t believe in the potential of fostering an incredible community of creatives.
That’s why I’m here. That’s why I started this newsletter. To support you. To celebrate and discover other people’s creativity, talent, and unique personality. I hope you feel genuinely encouraged in your creative journey. I know it can feel disheartening when all you want is for some people to notice your work. We all want that. It’s a very human experience to want to be acknowledged and praised (especially creatives). That’s an okay desire - in moderation of course. And I hope, if anything, you can find some of that here. I’d love to get to know you and hear what you’re up to. The offer is always out there. Sometimes I read newsletters and hear people say they want to connect and I don’t really believe them. I hope you can believe me. That’s why I’m building an online community. I really really care about this. Haha, okay, well I think you get it. I’ll hop off of my soap box now. Thanks for reading. You’re awesome!
GUYS!
MusicBed has some really cool things in the works! If you don’t know what MusicBed is - it is a platform where you can license high quality music for your films. They’re offering a free 14 day trial right now so you can get an idea of the platform and then they’re planning on releasing something else amazing real soon. Even before the release, 14 days free of MusicBed is a steal. If you’ve ever considered them, now is the time to try it out. I would genuinely recommend them 1000 times over.
I made this video for the newsletter but I decided I want to release it to the public too - you guys get to see it first though of course :)

This week’s creative challenge:
Last week was a simple challenge, so this week, I’m going to challenge you a little more. I want you to make a full on video. If you don’t want to have to think about what to make, here are parameters for you. Film the entire video in one room. Make it at least 30 seconds long. Use a voiceover and creative angles to tell a story. Whatever story you can come up with that would happen in one single room. Decide what you want the viewer to feel. Do you want them to ponder a question? Do you want them to laugh? Decide and then go film it! Extra challenge: Post it. Share it. But don’t worry about the response. Who cares if no one sees or it or if everyone sees it. You did it! That’s amazing! Good job!
WANT TO CHAT WITH ME ONE-ONE-ONE?
Do you have specific questions you want answered and don’t know who to ask? Are you in a creative rut and just need someone who understands to encourage you? It is my favorite thing to connect with you guys! No dumb questions here - just two creatives connecting and learning from one another. 60 Minute Video Call | $250 |
