Week 1
TIP OF THE WEEK
“I don’t have enough time” - erase that phrase from your vocabulary. You have time for what you prioritize. Next time you find yourself thinking that, replace it with “no, I just didn’t prioritize time to make it happen.” If you want to do something, don’t make another excuse. If you really, absolutely, 100% don’t have the time to do what you want right now, then schedule a time in the future for it. The longer you sit thinking you don’t have time, the longer it will be until you finally pursue that thing you’ve always dreamed of.
JORDYN UPDATES
Highs of the week: Lows of the week: |
The reminder I repeated to myself 100 times this week: slow down. Something you may not know about me is I can be a workhorse. I LOVE my work. I genuinely don’t want to put it down a lot of the time. Building business, exploring creativity, learning new skills - I could just keep going and going. As I started posting on social media again, I found myself already thinking “how can I keep this up consistently?”…and immediately, I regretted that thought because I knew it would mean I would start sacrificing quality work. It was a necessary wrestle though because it really brought me to this place of honing in where I wanted to place my focus. If I really care about building a community online, then where can I give and serve at my best? After processing through that, I have determined for now that my 3 main focuses will be my newsletter, youtube, and the online community I am building (+ mentorship calls of course). I will still post on Instagram here and there but I find it really drains me as a creator. It makes me sad that even my own followers don’t get to see my posts because of the algorithm. So for those of you who joined this newsletter, thank you so much! I am so happy to hopefully get to connect with you in a much more intentional and valuable way.

If you’re a creative but feeling drained by the endless pressure to “post consistently, be available on all platforms, etc” - I encourage you to take some time to think about what really matters to you and how you really want to share your work - and don’t be afraid to do what excites you. I have no doubt you’d rather get to the end of your creative journey knowing you enjoyed what you did rather than “trying to do all the right things to be successful”.
Also - random update - but considering I spend a lot of time working on my computer and I’m not sleeping well (probably because of extreme amounts of blue light)…I bought some serious blue-light blocking glasses, haha. They literally have red lenses. I’ll let you know if they work. I’m so curious.
This week’s creative challenge:
Go out for 5 minutes today. Go to your front porch. Take a walk to a new location. Anywhere. And then sit, close your eyes, and pay attention to every sound you hear. Visuals are important in filmmaking, but sound is just as important. Consider how you can make a boring scene in your next film come to life just by adding in all the sound effects you would naturally hear in daily life. I promise, this will bring your work to the next level. It will draw your audience in to your video more than you would expect.
