Week 6

TIP OF THE WEEK

This is not a new idea. It’s really simple, yet deeply impactful when actually executed.

When you’re feeling overwhelmed, when you feel stuck, when you don’t know which task to prioritize - take one step forward anyway. It does not matter how small the step is. Just do something. Working on the discipline of consistent small actions, especially when they feel hard, will be one of the best things you can do for your creativity, your career, your relationships, your life.

SPEAKING OF TAKING A STEP:

I’m going to use this week’s newsletter to officially launch the online community to all of you. I gotta be honest, this is super vulnerable for me. I have worked so so hard on building this community, but the whole time, I’ve been fully aware that I could “fail” at it. It’s not the platform that makes a great community, it’s the people. So it doesn’t matter if I built something great, if people don’t want to be a part of it, then it’s not a community. “Wow Jordyn - you’re launching a community and already talking about it failing? Not the best approach.” You’re right - but that’s not why I bring it up. Of course I don’t want to fail at all. I REALLY believe in this and I’m going to keep pursuing it because I know why I created it. I am so passionate about this. Passionate about helping and encouraging fellow creators. You can’t be an entrepreneur without risk. You can’t build something great without risk. Risk is inevitable. Risk is uncomfortable. But the right kind of risk can be so worth it. So here I am, following the tip of the week. Even if I’m not doing things “perfectly”, I’m taking my step forward. For those who choose to believe in this with me and join the community, even in its humble beginnings - you bet I will pour my heart into making the experience great.

And the truth is, even if it never expanded past what it is now, it’s not a failure in my eyes. The fact that I made a dream of mine into a tangible reality is already a huge success. And last week, I was on multiple group and one-on-one calls with people who have joined the community. Truly a dream come true. I am so thankful.

OKAY, SO HOW DO YOU JOIN?

Well, let’s make it simple. Click the button below to go learn more about the online community and you’ll be able to join from there! I also started posting some information on the @morethanafilmmaker instagram (it’s similar to the information on the landing page) but I will continue to share more there if you want to give it a follow.

and as always, don’t hesitate to ask me ANY questions you have about it! I want you to feel confident and excited about joining. YAY!

Now on to the regularly scheduled newsletter content…

JORDYN UPDATES

Highs of the week:
• The sun came out in Oregon and hit 70 degrees! So I took that opportunity to drive out and take photos/videos in the Columbia River Gorge.
• The live calls within the online community were truly a highlight. I was literally giddy afterwards.

Verse of the week:
“Fear not, little flock, for it is your Father’s good pleasure to give you the kingdom.” - Luke 12:32
(The context around that verse is what makes it even more incredible.)

I’ve already written quite a bit in this newsletter, so I decided I’ll just share some of the photos I took around the Columbia River Gorge instead. Check out the weekly video to see some of the footage I got too!

Also: I’ve received quite a bit of feedback that you guys are loving the creative challenges. That makes me so happy! Thanks for reading my newsletters each week - it means a lot!

This week’s creative challenge:
If you peek at the bottom of this email, you’ll see me fail at my own challenge - which is totally okay. I want to see you guys do it better! This week, try taking a “stitched” panorama. In order to do this, you will need to take multiple photos spanning across the entire scene. Make sure that there is “overlap” in each photo so that Lightroom can properly stitch them together. You can see the example below. In Lightroom, you will select all the photos, right click, select “Photo Merge” and then “Panorama”. If this is confusing, there are tons of articles explaining it on google. Have fun!

MY TOP RECOMMENDATIONS

I told you I would let you know about Musicbed’s fun update. They added a new A.I. feature called “Search by Song”. You can type the name of any artist or song in the world and it will show you hundreds of similar songs on MusicBed. So cool!

FOR THOSE WHO MAKE IT TO THE BOTTOM OF MY EMAILS :)

Here’s a failed photo attempt this week. I wanted to make a “stitched” panorama. This is when you take a lot of close up photos that overlap with each other and then stitch it all together in Lightroom to create a high quality panorama. I accidentally took these photos with my circular polarizer filter on though and it created a gross vignetting that would be hard to fix in post. Lesson learned.

To end on a positive note, I captured a little rainbow in the waterfall. This was taken out the window of the car while driving (I was a passenger).

Have a great day!

Best, Jordyn
