Week 3

TIP OF THE WEEK

Let’s think about plants for a second - specifically fruit. If you plant a seed to a fruit tree or start up a vineyard, you might see fruit in your first year. But anyone who knows gardening well, knows that years of care and consistency will increase the abundance AND quality of that fruit. The process of growing good fruit takes time but is ultimately so worth it. Creativity is like this. Creativity is like a garden that needs to be nurtured. The more you practice and cultivate your creative garden, the better the fruit will be each year. And one more cool thought - just like seed-bearing plants that can forever reproduce and create more…so it is with creativity. Your creativity can never run out. Maybe it’s a rainy day and you didn’t get the sun you wanted today (rough metaphor, but I mean, maybe you’re feeling a little creatively stuck today)…don’t let that discourage you. Continue to be patient in the process of growth. With intentional care, patience, and nurture, your creativity will continually get better and better with each passing season. Don’t give up!

JORDYN UPDATES

Highs of the week:
• I’m continuing to work really hard on the “more than a filmmaker” community and I’m getting so close to being ready to launch!
• I captured another timelapse of a mountain - haha having so much fun with those (check out this week’s newsletter video).
• I filmed a reel for PolarPro that will be/or already has been posted today!
• I got to go indoor bouldering, play pickleball, and get in the gym this week! So fun!

Lows of the week:
• Ya know, I don’t want to focus on lows this week. I just want you to know, social media is only a fraction of my reality - there’s some tough stuff in life too, but gratitude is just the best thing you can do for yourself. Though some things may be hard, I am SO thankful for the things that are good. Praise the Lord!

I feel like I have so much that I can share this week, but as I’m getting really close to being ready to launch the online community, I thought I should describe what it is a little more. You might be asking, what does Jordyn mean when she says “online community”? Well, I’ve been working really hard to create a space for creatives like you and I to connect with one another, get better at our craft together, collaborate with each other, and support each other. Have you ever just wished it was easier to have a friend in the creative world that you can ask directly for help instead of trying to find the perfect YouTube video to answer your question? I’m working to cultivate a space like that for all of us.

What you can expect to experience in the online community:

• Weekly live chat spaces to connect with other creatives. A space where you can ask questions, bounce creative ideas off of others, get live feedback on your work…and so much more.
• A library of resources all about how I’ve ran my video business. Videos talking about the actual income I made and how I got clients over the past few years, a Notion template on how I track all the finances in my business, how I manage my project files, how I get out of creative block, etc.
• While I think there is so much value in getting to connect with each other face to face in live chat rooms - there will also be a “feed” where you can share your work, ask questions, share inspiration. There’s also “direct messaging” so you can easily connect with an individual or others that you want to collaborate/be friends with.

…and there’s so much beyond those 3 bullet points. I will continue to share more about what you can expect within the online community as I get closer and closer to officially launching it. In the meantime, I’d love to get feedback from you so I can make it even better for everybody!

LET’S HELP EACH OTHER

If you fill out this quick feedback form about the online community for me, I’ll check out your work AND give you a shoutout on Instagram by the end of this week.

(I will only give a shoutout to those who want it, feel free to still fill out the form and let me know that you don’t want a shoutout.)

I appreciate it! Thank you so much!

This week’s creative challenge:
Alright, let’s keep it simple this week. Grab your camera. If you have an actual camera, use that one. If you only have a smartphone, use that one. Take one single picture that you think is “creative”. Don’t judge it too hard, but just find one single creative angle of something. The goal is action, not perfection. In the spirit of nurturing your creativity - planting the seed (aka taking one small step) is what starts the growth. If you’re willing, share your photo with others (with me, on socials, anywhere)!

Do you have specific questions you want answered and don’t know who to ask? Are you in a creative rut and just need someone who understands to encourage you? It is my favorite thing to connect with you guys! No dumb questions here - just two creatives connecting and learning from one another.

MY TOP RECOMMENDATIONS

AN EXTRA FOR THOSE WHO MAKE IT TO THE BOTTOM OF MY EMAILS :)

I wanted to get honest and say a bit more about the “tip of the week” I shared. I hope this serves as encouragement and motivation for you. This past year, I had a lot of things interrupt my creativity. My personal life was just really full of a lot of challenges to navigate. As a result, I didn’t “create” as much. Now that I’m finally back into a space where I get to create more often, I can tell you, the ripple effect of improvement is so exciting. One of my favorite things about the creative process is actually “hindsight”. What do I mean by that? Well, it’s super hard to notice yourself getting any better when you only look at the work you’re producing today. But, if you have been actively working and practicing your craft for an extended period of time, I guarantee you can look back and see major improvements in yourself. Motivation is often hard to come by, but one of my biggest motivators is actually seeing my own improvement. Sometimes I go back and watch my work from a year ago and it makes me realize, “wow, I had no idea I improved that much in a year.” And that thought always makes me just want to create more and more. It makes me wonder what my work will look like 5 years from now if I just don’t stop. So, I encourage you to just keep creating. Cultivate the garden of your creativity! It’s worth it!

Have a great day!

Best, Jordyn
